The purpose of the Spiritual Development Commission is to recommend to the Parish Council programs and activities that enhance the Mission Statement and the following Core Values of the Parish:

a) Faith Formation-  We are a Catholic community of believers, rich in our traditions and diversity, committed to develop the promises made in Baptism through education and proclamation of the Word.
b) Celebration-  As a Eucharistic people we rejoice in the opportunity to praise the Lord in all of our prayers, works, actions and sacrifices.
c) Responsibility-  We acknowledge an obligation to actively respond to and nurture all God’s people as inspired by the Gospel.  This responsibility is fulfilled through our commitment of time, talent, and treasure.
d) Vision-  On an ongoing basis, we strive to expand our understanding of other’s needs and our ability to meet those needs in our parish and in our community.
e) Community-  The community of St. Felicitas welcomes and encourages everyone to join us on our journey to the Kingdom.  In the spirit of unconditional love, we continually seek to treasure all God’s gifts.

The Commission consists of 8 lay parishioners, Fr. Dennis Kristancic, and Mary Muehle and is lead by Jane Page - Chairperson and Tony Bernardo - Vice Chairperson.  The Commission is currently focusing on these six key initiatives:

1. Respect Life – We have been focusing on developing programs that bring awareness to all aspects of human life and strive to create an understanding of the Church’s deep and abiding belief in the value and dignity of all human life, wherever and however God has given it.  A recent example of this is celebrating Respect Life Month in October by selling Respect Life flags after mass.  Other examples include:

2. Catholic Education – We are currently sponsoring the Scripture classes being offered by Fr. Mehok held on Tuesday nights and the Echoes of Faith classes held monthly.

3. Project Starfish – This is our annual Lenten project of self sacrifice by which we set aside a little money each day of Lent and donate the money toward worthy causes, such as our sister community in Christ in El Salvador.  We have built 20 new homes and a recreational center with our generous donations. click here for Project Starfish Update

4. Rebuilding Together – This is an annual event in April of every year where dozens of parishioners donate their time and skills to help renovate a home in need.  We work with Rebuilding Together of Lake County and housing offered by New Directions for Living which provides transitional housing for people/families currently working to get their lives back on track.  Our efforts were recognized by New Directions for Living this year for the work we have done over the past two years.

5. Parish Mission – The past two years the commission has sponsored and helped to develop a three day spiritual mission conducted during Lent.  We are currently planning this year’s mission and plan on making this an annual part of our Lenten season.

6. Adult Faith Formation – Over the past year, the members of the commission have been studying and developing ways to improve our parish’s adult faith formation.  We have learned a great deal about our parish’s strengths in this area and where we can improve.  We have applied what we’ve learned to many of our programs.

The Commission also acts as the sponsor for the following groups by reviewing their activities and programs to determine if they need to be modified or discontinued. Groups currently active are:
