Parish School of Religion

Our PSR session was cancelled on Saturday, March 9, 2008 due to the snow storm
and will be held on April 12th.
We will have Reconciliation and Open House on April 12th.
Students should report at the usual time, 9:15 am.
Parents are invited to join in the Reconciliation Service at 11:00 am.

STRUCTURE OF PROGRAM: FAITH FIRST published by RCL will be used this year.. This series use a three-dimensional religious education approach.  It is designed to help young people experience their Catholic identity, integrate Catholic values and express their Catholic beliefs.  Through presenting Catholic doctrine in the context of community, students will share the richness of our past, engage the realities of the present, and develop skills to meet the challenges of the future.
Each grade level has a separate book which focuses on a common theme throughout all grades presented at the age appropriate level.
Major themes covered throughout the year are: We Believe(Creed), We Worship(Liturgy and Sacraments) We Live(Christian Morality) and We Pray(Christian Prayer).
During each monthly session the children experience the following:  three 45 minute classes taught by a team of two teachers, a prayer experience, music class, a visit by a member of our parish staff and a recess/snack break.  In addition to the textbooks for families with internet access there is a website that has homework helps, games for the children and a parent page to assist you in helping your child with homework as well as further developing what the children have learned during the monthly sessions.  The monthly newsletters will have directions for parents on how to use these effectively.

ROLE OF PARENTS:  Without your help and cooperation we cannot have a successful program!  We ask that you be faithful in bringing your children to each session on time! Because of the scheduling it is essential that all students be ready to start at 9:15 am.  Also, we ask that you be faithful in making sure other activities or family plans are scheduled around the designated Saturdays.  An absence for one of these sessions will place the student at a disadvantage.  Should one of the sessions be canceled because of weather we will reschedule.  In this event YOU WILL BE CALLED!  And finally, we ask that you take time during the month to review the book with your child and help him/her complete the assignment. Attend the Monthly Parent Forum which meets from 12:05 - 12:30 each month.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION:  Second graders and other students preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion have an additional preparation program held during the second semester.  The dates and an explanation of this program will be given in a separate mailing to the families involved.
